A Good Question
Does the rain make my windows dirty?
Rain does not make the windows dirty, dirt does. Dust accumulates on the outside of the glass from lawn mowers, tree pollen, car exhaust, construction sites and a hundred other sources. This dust settles as a uniform layer on the glass – like a “film residue”. When it rains, the rain drops push the dust into different patterns and after the water dries the dust remains on the glass. This new “mud residue” is now highly visible because it is no longer uniformly spread but is sporadic throughout the pane.
Clean glass will stay clean after a rain because once the rain water dries, there is nothing left behind to obscure the view.
Rain is, in most cases, very pure water. It has been naturally distilled by the evaporation and condensation cycle and is essentially pure H2O. Pure water, unlike tap water, does not contain any minerals and so will not leave streaks and deposits on your windows. With that being said, rain alone does NOT get the glass dirty. With the exception of a blowing storm, when it rains on clean windows, screens and frames, the windows will dry spotless in most cases. The fact is that 99% of the time your freshly cleaned windows will stay clean just as long if it rains as they will if the weather is dry.
